From April 1, 2008 through June 30, 2008 Local 506 has done the following: 1. Filed 7 grievances 2. Withdrawn 2 greivances 3. Settled 1 grievance My source relays to me that this was the only information they could receive as Privacy issues were of concern. Which means, that the 7 grievances filed, 2 grievances withdrawn and the 1 grievance settled were for individuals, and not the entire bargaining unit of local 506. It just seems odd to me that with all of the stuff people have posted about 506, that for 6 full months, not 1 greivance was filed on behalf of the bargaining unit. Some say that perhaps all of the issues are being handled informally or during LMR, while others are saying that nothing is resolved at the local level. Some say Local 506 president is running for 5th dist VP, I wonder what he will do in that position if elected? Local 506 has 1004+ bargaining unit members, with 600 +/- correctional officers. Everyone knows CO's complain the most, and you want me to believe that with all of this, only 7 grievances have been filed in 6 months? Something is not adding up. In 2006 and 2007, there were over 100 grievances filed each year by this Local, what happened?

Re: Weak local.
OK, I know a lot has been said about weak and strong locals on here, and I wanted to throw out a hypothetical to you guys to see what you think:
Quarter Change procedures- we all know the blank roster gets posted 7 weeks prior to the quarter change, and the committee meets 5 weeks prior to the quarter change, and the final roster gets posted 3 weeks prior to the quarter change.\ Let's say the Lt. posts the blank roster 13 days late, and posts the shift requests 20 days late, and have the roster committee 2 weeks late, and posts the roster 2 weeks late, basically everything is done 2 weeks late. Now to cover it up, the Lt and Capt put out a memo stating that all of this was done late, and to make up for it, they are extending the current quarter by two weeks. To recap, the agency has violated the master agreement by 2 weeks, and issues a memo admitting that they violated the master agreement. What do you and your local do? Again this is just a hypothetical, any resemblance to actual events is purely coincidental. |

Re: Weak local.
No reason to mess up the schedule. The Captain can simply use the previous quarter's roster, which everyone has had plenty of time to view.
Someone is trying to get both Thanksgiving and Christmas off by adjusting the quarter so that both holidays fall within the same quarter. Don't let them get away with it. At the very least they should have to reimburse shift differential and Sunday pay to those who will loose two weeks worth of it because the captain wants to reward some cocktaster.

Re: Weak local.
Hmm. Sounds like it may just be an honest mistake. How it could be made, I don't know since it's a procedure that occurs the same way four times a year. Perhaps the BOP is sinking even lower into the abyss of incompetence.

Re: Weak local.
All of you sound like inmates complaining about their programs.Just go to work and do your job.If you put as much time and energy into being the best officer you can be as you do whining about the bop and the union your facility might be a better place.Just an opinion.
